The City's Law Department manages all of the City's legal affairs, and provides legal advice to the Mayor, City Council, and other City officials and employees on a broad range of issues. City Attorneys are appointed by and report to the Mayor, with a mission to advance the City's interests in compliance with the law, and to reduce the risk of legal liability through advance planning and prevention. The Department also oversees the Office of the Municipal Prosecutor, which is located in the Municipal Court complex.
The Law Department does not provide legal advice to private citizens--it only represents the City of Orange Township, and to the extent permitted by law, its boards, commissions, agencies, officials, and employees, on matters of public business. Citizens in need of legal assistance must contact a private attorney.
